Basked in bright pastels and the Caribbean sun, Harbour Island is a remote treasure in the Bahamian isles, where the pace of life is indicative of days gone by. Upon arrival, you will be transported to a different time, where the sun dictates the day’s activities and the “Goombay Smash” serves as the perfect evening cocktail to wind down, or get the night started. There are no casinos or high rises – Harbour Island is a quaint Bahamian island, with amazing and fresh cuisine, little boutiques and plenty of water sports and world class diving. There are modern day conveniences available – but only if you want them. Chances are you will trade in your smartphone and web surfing for a week on the world famous pink sand beach.
Just off the coast of Eleuthera, Harbour Island was once the bustling capital of the Bahamas, well-known for ship building, sugar refining and citrus farming. Its rich history is still very much alive today and the kind islanders will greet you with a smile and will be more than happy to share with you "Briland's," (as it's affectionately called by visitors and Bahamians alike) culture. Colorful cottages and houses adorn the island. Palm trees sway gently in the breeze and the trade winds carry the smell of bougainvillea, allamanda and hibiscus, engulfing your senses, melting away the stresses of modern day life. And so your journey in paradise begins.
The House
Cotton Tree House was built by a British sea captain in 1843, and it is full of charm and reminders of an island cottage. This historic Harbour Island home is located on Murray Street, one of the most beloved streets on the island. Murray Street is one of the most famous streets to photograph, paint and illustrate in all of the Bahamas.
Cotton Tree House is situated in the heart of town and is just a two minute walk from the main arrival/departure dock. You can walk to restaurants, shops, the grocery store, marinas or the famous pink sand beach. Top notch diving, boating and other water sport offerings are just a short hop away. The house holds six people in three bedrooms and is fully air conditioned. Two full bathrooms, one on each floor, and a heavenly outdoor shower are available. The spacious dining room, fully stocked kitchen and outdoor grill make staying in for meals as easy as going out.
You’ll also enjoy sitting on the long front porch to view Harbour Island sunsets as this home has stunning views of the harbor. Spend your days relaxing in the tropically landscaped backyard, partaking in water sports or enjoying the beach (only a five minute walk or 2 minute golf cart ride away).
